Tigers JH boys drop two in tournament
While the Lady Tigers were able to sweep their two contests in Fairview’s Junior High Tournament last week, the Canton boys did not have the same luck. The Tigers lost 37-16 to Hinton on Monday, and also dropped their Saturdayafternoon contest to Alva by a count of 21-18.
The boys have still yet to win their first game, but showed improvement in their two game in Fairview. On Monday, the Tigers got off to a decent start scoring six points in the opening frame.
Unfortunately, Hinton went on a run in the quarter as well, putting up 13 point to take the early lead. In the second frame, Canton couldn’t slow down the Comets and struggled to score as well.
By halftime, the Tigers found themselves trailing by 14 points and that narrative would hold true from that point forward. Jerrod Geiger scored 11 points for Canton, but he was the only Tiger that could consistently find success on the offensive end.
Parker Webb and Colton Smith each added a basket as well, and Daylon McNabb was able to chip in a second-quarter free throw.
Against the Alva seventh graders, neither team was able to much success scoring early but the Tigers would soon find themselves playing catchup again. Canton never let the Goldbugs get too far out in front, but was also never able to pull even either.
Once again, Geiger led the way in scoring for Canton as the dropped their second contest of the week, and fourth of the season.
Next up, Canton will take on Hydro-Eakly on the road on Tuesday, December 15. They will compete in the final game right after the junior girls with the elementary teams kicking off the action a 4 p.m.
