After the boys team failed to have a single athlete qualify for the State Meet in 2018, senior Deonte Murray looks to lead a strong group of runners this season.

Tiger track seasons kick off this week

It’s officially spring, which means the sun will start shining more often and the Canton Tigers will be kicking off track season at all levels. After both high school basketball teams made it to the Regional portion of the playoffs, they’ve had over three weeks catch their breath before hitting the track.

Last year, the girls’ team tied for 25th at the State Meet with a total of six points, and while they saw a few key pieces to that group graduate, they will have the majority of their team back. Senior Keely Green and sophomore Arianna Green represented half of the 400 and 800-meter relay teams that qualified for State in 2018, and should play important roles moving forward for the team.

They also had a pair of girls narrowly miss qualifying for State in the field events. Senior Jenni Delgado will hope to get over the hump in the long jump after coming up just short in 2018, while Sophomore Taylor Dowell will attempt to do the same in the high jump.
