School board unanimously passes new security measures
The Board of Education for Canton Public Schools met on Tuesday, September 10 at 7 p.m. in the Administration Building Board Room for a Special Meeting and in attendance were a number parents, grandparents and family of students in the district.
The meeting quickly moved from the call to order, and votes to approve the agenda and the minutes from the August 12 meeting to executive session. After close to an hour and a half, the board returned to open session. Board President Matt Elder addressed the meeting in a statement saying, “While in executive session, the board held confidential communications with its attorney concerning a pending confidential investigation of an incident involving the discovery of a firearm on campus the board having been advised by its attorney that disclosure would seriously impair the ability of the board to conduct the pending confidential investigation, pursuant to Oklahoma Statutes, tit. 25, § 307(B)(1)(4) and (7).”
