Jared Cox puts up the three as Canton competes in Fairview’s Summer League. Cox will be one of a trio of threeyear starters for the Tigers this season, including Josh Edwards and Claysen Scott.

Rich pleased with summer work; Eyes special season

As June wrapped up, so too did the summer team activities for the Canton basketball players. On the last week of June, Coach Patrick Rich and the Tigers traveled to Fairview for their final summer league of the off-season.

The Tigers are in the fortunate position to have the majority of their roster back in 2019, which gives Rich an opportunity to gage where his returning starters have expanded their games. With leading-scorer, Claysen Scott absent from the second day of the event while resting a sore elbow, it forced the rest of the starters to prove how far they have come since the end of the season.

“Going in with a bunch of seniors like we have, we wanted to kind of fine tune our game,” stated Rich. “This is kind of a preview of what we want to do this season. We are trying to be more aggressive on offense. We want to attack creases. We want to use multiple sets. Those are some of the major focuses we had coming into this. This can kind of seem like a formality because we are a veteran team, but I still want to see guys step up and I did.”
