Canton boys win district crown, girls advance

The Canton High School basketball teams saw the regular season end last week with a pair of victories on Senior Night against Geary, while also getting off to a strong start in the playoffs over the weekend. While the boys swept the opening round on their way to the District Championship, the girls split their opening games to advance to Regional next week.

For the Lady Tigers, the week started on Tuesday with a 33-21 victory over the Lady Bison, before heading to Hydro-Eakly for a rematch with Geary in their first playoff game. After having beaten Geary twice already by doubledigits, Canton figured to be the heavy favorites but things didn’t start smoothly for the Lady Tigers.

Canton struggled to get their offense going in the opening quarter, only scoring seven points in the early going. Still, their defense was outstanding as they held the Lady Bison to only three points, and in the second frame the Lady Tigers’ offense showed up.
