Basketball seasons come to an end in regionals

Both Canton High School basketball teams saw their season come to an end last week in the Regional portion of the playoffs. While the girls reeled off two-straight wins to come within a game of advancing, a loss on Saturday to Waukomis eliminated them from contention. For the boys, a devastating two-point loss that came down to the final seconds against Arapaho-Butler proved too tough to rebound from, as the Tigers were eliminated the following day by Drummond.

The girls opened week in the single-elimination portion of the Regional Bracket, meaning the Lady Tigers needed to win three-straight games to advance. Canton opened on Thursday with a 52-28 victory over Union City, before taking on Cherokee the next night in a rematch with the Lady Chiefs.

The Lady Tigers defeated Cherokee at the beginning of the month by 19 points in a game where Canton consistently took advantage of the Lady Chiefs’ defensive sets. Friday was no different in that regard.
