Ice storm gets off to a late start, bringing beauty and destruction

The ice storm that area residents began to question finally decided to show its full potential this weekend. Local weathermen predicted that a massive ice storm was to hit the area, with ice accumulations starting as early as last Friday, in the pre-dawn hours. School was cancelled, basketball games were delayed, everyone planned to be iced in for the weekend, preparing as they could for power outages.

Friday brought light showers, and there were a few icy spots along the roads. There were several vehicle accidents along 1-40, around Clinton. For the most part roads around Canton stayed clear, free of ice. Light precipitation continued throughout Saturday, but nothing you would call a catostrophic ice storm was appearing to take shape.
