Rural housing ideas should follow McCall’s rural doctor bill

Saddled Up on the Trail

House Speaker Charles McCall, R-Atoka, is leading an effort to try to bring more doctors to rural Oklahoma.

McCall’s House Bill 2511 would reduce a doctor’s tax liability by up to $25,000 annually if they practice in a rural community for the tax year beginning in 2020. The bill defines rural communities as any municipality with a population of less than 25,000 and that is also located at least 25 miles from the nearest municipality with a population greater than 25,000.

McCall’s leadership and foresight in recognizing the need to improve access to primary care in rural Oklahoma is heartwarming to all of us that live in rural communities.
