Marlene “Janie” Paden (Dehn)

Marlene “Janie” Paden (Dehn) passed away peacefully on November 12, 2017 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Janie was born in Okeene, Oklahoma on May 1, 1929 in the heart of the dust bowl. At age 20, she married Guy Garriott and together they had Anthony Kent Garriott “Tony”. After a short marriage, she moved to Longbeach, California where she met Robert “Bob” Paden of Canton, Oklahoma on a blind date and they married. In 1951, Janie was a contestant and winner of the television show “Queen for a Day”, where she won a trip to Alaska. She is still a queen for a day in her family’s eyes. She was a jewel of a mother and wife and always had a beautiful smile on her face. Bob and Janie moved from California to Portland, Oregon, then on to Alaska in 1969. The years they lived in Alaska were filled with many adventures including camping and fishing trips, where Janie was always the last one off the river. Janie also had a love of gardening, sewing and quilting. In 1979, Bob and Jane moved from Alaska back to the Pacific Northwest where they lived out the remainder of their marriage. After the death of her husband in 2006, Janie remained in Kelso, Washington until May 2017 when she moved back to Oklahoma to live with her daughter Mary. Janie is preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Alice Dehn, sisters Helen Schmidt, Velma Hodge, and step-son Robert Paden, Jr. She is survived by her brother, Elvin Jantzen of Yukon, Oklahoma, son Dr. Tony (Sally) of Palmer, Alaska, son Larry of Kelso, Washington, daughter Mary (Matthew) of Bixby, Oklahoma, son Alan of Seattle, Washington, daughter Nancy of Grand Junction, Colorado and step daughter, Micheal (Reno) of Florida and numerous grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and greatgreat grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Canton Christian Church with Pastor Kraig Birchfield officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Canton Cemetery.
