On the Thursday before students got out for Christmas Break, the Okeene Whippets were able to debut their new gym with a 52-34 victory over Ringwood. However, the Lady Whippets did not compete on that night due to Ringwood having their entire team in quarantine.

Following a 3-8 season that saw the Tigers start the season with a three-game winning streak for the first time since 2009, Canton saw a total of seven players honored on the B-1 All- District Football Team. Seniors Jake Sinclair, Seth Bromlow, Ethan Foster and Caden Koehn, as well as freshman Luke Swartwood, sophomore Jacob Rutz and junior Johnie Burton were all named to various district teams for their efforts this past fall.
Hopelin Hood drives past four OBA defenders for a layup in Canton’s Gayle Hajny Invitational. Hood was also named to the All-Tournament team after averaging just over ten points a game.
Cody Conrady was named to the Gayle Hajny Invitational All-Tournament Team after leading Canton to the Consolation Title. Conrady averaged just over 15 points a game as Canton’s top returning scorer from last year’s squad.
The Canton High School basketball teams kicked off the season last week with their hometown Gayle Hajny Invitational. At the event, both the girls and boys bounced back from opening-night losses with a pair of wins each to earn the Consolation Title.
While the Lady Tigers were able to sweep their two contests in Fairview’s Junior High Tournament last week, the Canton boys did not have the same luck. The Tigers lost 37-16 to Hinton on Monday, and also dropped their Saturdayafternoon contest to Alva by a count of 21-18.
The Canton Lady Tigers traveled to Fairview last week for what was scheduled to be a three-day junior high tournament. However, due to the weather conditions that made it difficult for some schools to travel on Thursday, only two rounds were played on Monday and Saturday.
