The Okeene Whippets were crowned District Champs after defeating Erick 63-56 last Saturday. The boys are now 9-12 on the season, and will take on Forgan on the fi rst day of Regionals with a chance at locking up a spot in the Area Round on the line.
Miles Howe races down the court in transition, in Okeene’s win over Erick in the District Championship. Howe had one of his best games of the year despite being hobbled with a sore knee. He shot the ball well from the outside, as well as got to the basket. Howe was also terrifi c on the boards.
Whippets shoot their way to District Championship
While the Lady Whippets were unable to bring home a district crown, the Okeene boys defeated the Erick Bearcats 63-56 to earn the title. The 63 points is the second-highest total Okeene has put up this year, and they used an incredible first half to do it.
After Deer Creek-Lamont chose to take on Erick on the first day instead of Okeene, it meant the Whippets would be getting a free pass to the Regional Round despite Saturday’s results. Still, the Whippets made sure they had some momentum going into the next round.
