Tigers win tourney consolation crown

Last week, Canton High School hosted their Gayle Hajny Basketball Invitational, where eight high schools from around the area sent their boys and girls to compete. While the Lady Tigers won only one of their three matchups in the tournament, the Canton Tigers lost only their opener which came in an overtime thriller to the Okeene Whippets.

The girls opened the event up against the Arnett Lady Cats, and cruised to an easy victory putting them in the winner’s bracket moving forward. After dropping their Thursday-night matchup with the Fairview Lady Jackets 44-17, Canton was paired up with Canute in the third-place game.

The Canute Lady Trojans posed a difficult test for the undersized Lady Tigers, but Canton came out determined not to let their size put them in a hole. Jenny Delgado and Arianna Green did an incredible job of denying pass to their taller players, and when shots went up, the two worked frantically to box them out.
