Canton Tigers kickoff their summer basketball competition with a junior high camp in Cherokee. As the Tigers’ program continues to grow, it becomes all the more important for Coach Patrick Rich to develop his talent at the younger levels to build on their success.

Shorthanded junior high competes at team camp

While the girls have been competing in basketball camps for the last few weeks, Coach Patrick Rich and the boys are just now hitting the hardwood as the junior high team traveled to Cherokee last week. It’s the start of a busy few weeks for the Tigers as the high school team will also be starting soon, and with the program continuing to grow, these camps are providing invaluable experience for Canton.

The junior high team might be a loaded roster next season, but you wouldn’t have known that last week as only six players made the trip to the camp with the majority being freshmen. Still, those that came put in a lot of work to get better and Coach Rich is going to have a talented junior high roster next winter.

While the freshmen are eligible to play on the high school team, it appears the best opportunity to get them playing time might be to keep them down on the junior high roster. Rich has all but one player returning to the high school squad that won 15 games last season, and came one victory shy of advancing to the Area Round of the playoffs.
