Canton boys hold off Fairview, girls fall
After returning from Christmas break with four games in five nights, the Canton High School basketball teams had a much easier workload last week, with only a road game against Fairview on the schedule. While the girls saw their fivegame win streak snapped by the seventh-ranked team in Class 2A, the boys put together one of their best efforts of the year for a big victory over the Yellowjackets.
While the Lady Tigers entered last Tuesday’s matchup with Fairview playing their best basketball of the season, their streak came to a screeching halt against a Lady Jackets team looking to start a streak of their own. After starting the season with seven-straight wins, Fairview stumbled out of Christmas break losing three of six.
Still, they were set to be the toughest team Canton has played in the last month, and that was made clear early in the game. The Lady Jackets came out hot, scoring 20 points in the opening frame as all five starters found their way on to the scorer’s sheet.
