Canton Board expresses concerns over fund raising

There were a few tense moments during the Canton Town Hall monthly board meeting for May with the tension involving a previous discussion about how to go about raising funds for the city pool.

Mayor Wanda Baker and Cleophas “Wooley” withdrew their previously offered support of a project designed to promote the 2019 fundraiser for city pool funds. Prior to receiving a donation from the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes and Lucky Star Casino, the board had discussed ways to raise the funds that included mailing out letters of request for donations. The board had agreed at that time that any such work should be done as individuals and not as board members. With this in mind, Baker and Wooley had agreed to donate from their own personal funds for preparing and mailing these pool donation letters, with each contributing half of that cost. During this meeting, they formally rescinded that offer due to concerns over how the project was being carried out.

“There’s some things going on that concern me,” Baker stated. “I just think when we as a board come to a decision, it should be followed by all the board.”
