Canton 6th grade wins Lions Club Tournament

Canton’s fifth and sixthgrade basketball teams wrapped up their Lions Club Basketball Tournament last Monday, with both sixthgrade teams winning their respective brackets to earn the title. The final round of the tournament had to be postponed due to weather from the previous week, but Canton was able reschedule the event with three of their four teams making it to the Championship Game.

After the fifth-grade boys lost their final round matchup to Thomas 19-4, the fifth-grade girls dropped their title game to Alva by a score of 12-5. Kamdyn put in two points in the first half as the Lady Tigers found themselves down only 4-2 at halftime, but the Golden Bugs made a run in the second half to take the title.

That led to the sixth-grade girl’s title game, where Alva took a 10-8 lead into the half. Alexus Meat and Imayah Littlejohn each put in four points in the opening frame, but it was Meat who would lead the comeback effort in the second half.
