Blaine County 4-H attends Tri-County Camp
Blaine County 4-H members joined 4-Her’s from two other counties for their annual camp June 4-6 near Vici, OK. The Tri-County camp included campers from Blaine, Kingfisher and Garfield Counties. The theme for 2018 was “Camping up a 4-H Storm”. Activities centered on weather and STEM related experiments through the camp. A STEM grant from Oklahoma State 4-H assisted with funding for activities specific to science.
Camp activities included STEM workshops-including building wind turbines, making snow, tornado safety, sun safety, a visit from Wind Turbine instructors from High Plains Technology and Marty Logan northwest Oklahoma Storm Chaser with his chase vehicle. Interns from OSU 4-H Office led the water conservation with teams building their own water collection system. A contest was held to see which system collected the most runoff. 4-H members learned about wind energy by designing wind turbines. Campers participated in swimming, games, a dance, and counselors led craft workshops to complete a fun and educational camp experience.
