Nate Bates prepares to make his fourth-straight shot from three-point land to spark Canton’s comeback victory over the Cherokee Chiefs.
Basketball squads hitting stride as playoffs approach
The Canton High School basketball teams have both been on a hot streak since returning from Christmas Break, and neither team showed any signs of slowing down last week. The Lady Tigers extended their winning streak to five, and have now won 11 of their last 12 games with their victories over Dover and Cherokee. Meanwhile, the boys also swept their two games, and have now won three in a row and eight of their last 10.
Following the girls’ 44-16 thrashing of Dover on Tuesday night, Canton traveled to Cherokee to face the Lady Chiefs. For Coach David Baldwin and the Lady Tigers, scoring on Cherokee was as simple as taking what the defense gave them.
“Our defense is what has won a lot of ball games for us,” stated Baldwin. “But if our offense keeps coming around like it has, we will be a tough team come the playoffs.”
