May Ann Marks Johnson

May Ann Marks Johnson departed for her heavenly home, February 4, 2018. She was born July 5, 1940 in Harvey, Illinois to Glenn and Chrissie (Ford) Shower. May Ann graduated from Sand Springs High School in 1958 and later attended University of Tulsa and SWOSU. On November 17, 1962 May Ann married Everett Marks. In 1965 Everett and May Ann moved to Canton, OK and resided on the Marks family farm. To this union was born three children, Ben, Roxanne and Elizabeth. Everett passed away February 10, 1978. During her time in Canton, May Ann worked at Willis Insurance, Canton Bank, Canton Lumber Yard, F-Stop, Grand Theater and Erma’s Grocery Store. On May 24, 1989 May Ann was united in marriage to George Johnson. From this union May Ann gained three children Gayle (Johnson) Bredel, Jack and Don Johnson. May Ann actively supported the community by teaching Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Sunday School, Whirly Birds, coordinated numerous blood drives for O.B.I., sang in the choir, was a member of Eastern Star and was a member of the Canton Ambulance board among many other activities. If you ever ate a cookie at VBS, there’s a good chance she baked it. She is currently an active member of the Canton Christian church. May Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Everett and George; daughter Gayle Ray Bredel; son Don Johnson; and half-sister Patricia Downing. She is survived by son Ben Marks and his wife Julie of Chester, OK; daughters Roxanne Shea and her husband Mike of Chicago, IL and Elizabeth Burghardt and her husband Darrel of Hitchcock, OK; son Jack Johnson of Seiling OK and son-in-law Marvin Bredel of Kingfisher, OK; her grandchildren are Kris Killman and his wife Regan of Canton, OK, Danielle McGinn and her husband Matt of Okeene, OK, Megan Cansler and her husband Matt of Seiling, OK, Morgan and Margo Marks of Chester, OK, Kristi Bright and her husband Jeff of Weatherford, OK and Kelsi Burghardt of Hitchcock, OK; four great-grandsons Trigger and Gunner Killman of Canton, OK and Hazen and Ridge McGinn of Okeene, OK; two great-granddaughters Lillian and Josie Cansler of Seiling, OK; one brother Robert Shower and his wife Elaine of Scottsdale, AZ; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Canton Christian Church with Joe Hart and Minister Bob Rowley officiating. Interment followed in Canton Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Oklahoma Blood Institute or Canton Christian Church with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O.
