Longdale Speedway Re-Opening Saturday
After likely experiencing withdrawal last year, area auto racing fans should be licking their chops for the grand reopening of Longdale Speedway at 6:30 on Saturday night.
The dirt race track, which stood doormat last year, was opened in March of 2014 and is under new management this season with Shawn Brassfield taking over the reins as general manager in November.
“We’re excited about getting the track back open this year,” Brassfield stated this week. “This facility is extremely nice, and complex compared to most circle dirt tracks in offering a lot of things most places don’t. Souvenir shops, race parts stores and a lot more overhead with staff and day-to-day functioning.”
While Speedway owner Jessie Hoskins was working on some capital improvement projects, he was in search of the right person to run the track and chose Brassfield, who drove race cars for 20 years and has helped with several racing series events.
