Harvest is over in Canton
Harvest has concluded in the Canton area. According to the Oklahoma Wheat Commission harvest is 93 percent complete throughout Oklahoma. It has been a bit of a lackluster year for wheat crops. The Canton area averaged just under 18 bushels per acre. Test weights were around 57 to 61 bushels per acre, with an average of approximately 59. Protein was everywhere between 10 to 18 depending on fertility, the stress on the plants, the freeze and the drought.
“The quality wheat was very good. Everything had good protein and was really clean this year” said Troy Everett, manager of Wheeler Brothers in Canton. “The farmers cut a third less grain this year.”
