Canton Lake flooding problems continue

Storm season in Oklahoma transformed towns and pastures into virtual lakes from record level rainfalls and Canton Lake is still facing flooding problems weeks after the bulk of it ended in mid-June.

Don Underwood, Lake Manager for Canton, Fort Supply, Great Salt Plains and Optima, reported Canton Lake is up 10 feet above normal elevation. Due to being unable to see the damage that is still under water, Underwood could not comment on the full extent of the damage. However, he did report that a considerable amount has been discovered so far.

“We do know that in Big Bend and Canadian both, we’ve got shoreline erosion that has occurred that’s going to impact our water service over there,” Underwood explained. “We’re going to be forced to relocate a waterline or two in Big Bend. One of my largest concerns are asphalted roadways and parking lots that are currently underwater.”
