Saddled Up on the Trail

The relentless call for school consolidation never seems to end.

This fall, James Machell, the dean of the University of Central Oklahoma’s College of Education and Professional Studies, released a study he calls “Right-sizing Oklahoma Districts.”

The Oklahoman pickup up on it quickly as their editorial board has rarely seen a common education school consolidation plan they didn’t think was a great idea.

Surprisingly Wayne Trotter of the Country Wide & Sun, a rural newspaper in Tecumseh agrees with Machell.

To the credit of Mr. Trotter he does at least pick on his own school districts in Pottawatomie County where he cites they have 14 school districts in the county (four which are “dependent” K-8 school districts).
