Education is the greatest opportunity

Education is the greatest opportunity

“Education is our greatest opportunity to give an irrevocable gift to the next generation,” said Ernie Fletcher.

I couldn’t agree more. It’s no secret that the State of Oklahoma struggles in the education department. When the 2018-19 Oklahoma School Report Card was released last year, it revealed that many Oklahoma high school students are not college or career ready. Although internships have increased scores in the postsecondary opportunities category, schools still fail to provide students with the tools they need after graduation.

That’s why I was happy to read a recent article that Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) in Weatherford has partnered with Yukon Public Schools to give students the opportunity to earn college credit in high school.

Juniors and seniors can enroll in up to 18 hours of concurrent enrollment tuition-free and employees will receive discounted tuition rates for education-related courses. After reading the article, it reminded me of my experience earning college credit in high school and how it helped me in my college career.
