When I first started at the newspaper, I felt a little out of my element because I was an English major, not a journalist. I love to read and write. I love words. However, if you'd given me tape recordings of six interviews, a bunch of out of order Post-it notes with chicken scratch on them and a couple of emails to follow up on, no way would I have been able to make a clear story out of it.
I have come a long way in these two months.
I'm taking a girl’s trip to Red River, NM., and by the time you're reading this, I will be back and I'm sure I had fun. Anyway, I was cleaning out my Jeep because we are planning on driving it. In my backseat, and everywhere else, I found Post-its of phone interviews. On the Post-its, I had paraphrased quotes and wrote the story as it came to me.
