Shelene Rhea Whiteshirt
Shelene Rhea Whiteshirt, 47, of the Seiling/Canton area, passed from this life on January 26, 2020. She was born on June 12, 1972 to Gilbert and Darlene (Nightwalker) Washington in California. Shelene grew up in the Seiling area, graduating from Seiling High School. She attended Haskell Indian Nations College where she obtained a degree in education. Shelene was the coordinator for the Cheyenne and Arapaho Head Start Program in Canton for over 25 years.
On August 19, 2015 she married Delwin Whiteshirt in Woodward, OK. In her spare time she enjoyed going to the casino, spending time with family, and especially getting to visit her two grandchildren.
Shelene was preceded in death by her husband, Delwin Whiteshirt; grandparents, James and Ruby Nightwalker and Harry and Grace Keller, as well as her parents Gilbert and Darlene Washington.
Left to carry her legacy are her children, Jessica Gerdes and husband Garrett of Woodward, and Alexander Washington of Canton; two grandchildren, Sebastian and Ari Gerdes; three siblings, Gilbert Washington, Jr. and companion Angela Nelson of Seiling, Dawn Washington of Woodward, and James Washington and wife Dorcas of Seiling; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A traditional wake service was held January 29 at the C-1 Cheyenne & Arapaho Community Building in Seiling. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, January 30 at the Elm Grove Community Church in Chester, OK. Burial will follow at Brumfield Cemetery.
