Xavier Lee Cannon, also known as “Mr. Buttons” and “Hungry Wolf”, was born June 2, 1996 at Weatherford, OK to Madeline Dawn Sankey and Robert Charles Cannon, Jr. He was called back home in the early morning of October 10, 2019 at his home in Roswell, NM.
Xavier was given his Arapaho Indian name “Hungry Wolf” by his grandpa and well-respected Northern Arapaho elder grandpa Francis. Xavier grew up making childhood memories with his little brother Ambrose, grandpa Kinsley (Kins) and grandma Margaret in Deer Creek. Later in his teenage years, he lived with his grandmother Vinita, Bill Blind, and with his brothers Ambrose and Paulino running around the great outdoors of Barefoot. He attended Canton Public Schools until he was 15, when he moved to Deer Creek to live with auntie Ray Ray and the kids for a bit. His journeys afterward led him to Ethete, WY; Roswell, NM; and occasional visits home to Barefoot to spend time with his big sister Shonda, his many uncles, aunties and grandparents. Xavier loved drawing, writing in his journal, listening to his music, and visiting with his family and close friends. He enjoyed going to pow-wows and dances, there was never a dull moment with him because he would make people laugh and smile, and help if someone needed an ear to talk to or a shoulder to lean on. Xavier’s laugh, his jokes and ability to cheer people up are going to be dearly missed by his close family members and friends.
Xavier is survived by his parents, Madeline Dawn Sankey of Roswell, NM and Robert Charles Cannon, Jr.; one daughter, Ever “Sheloveshorses” Cannon of Tonkawa, OK; big sister Lashonda Cheyenne Rose Sankey of Barefoot, little brother Ambrose Conrad Cannon of Ethete, WY, younger brother Paulino Hernandez of Oklahoma City, OK, and baby brother Isaac Vann (Sankey) of Stilwell, OK with Xavier’s uncle Tommy Vann; grandparents Byron and Barbara Sankey of Barefoot and grandmother Celeste Medicinebird of Oklahoma City, OK and Judy Toppah of Clinton, OK; and many aunties, uncles, and other family and friends. Xavier has a big family and had lots of support and love from all that knew him. Condolences may be offered online at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
