Janet Lynn (Swaffar) Hedrick

Janet Lynn (Swaffar) Hedrick

Janet Lynn (Swaffar) Hedrick, 69, of Chester, OK, passed from this life on October 3, 2019 in Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, surrounded by her loved ones.

Janet was born on August 2, 1950 in Ulysses, Kansas to William Harold Swaffar and Violet Mae Oakes.  She attended numerous elementary schools as Harold was transferred with Mobil Oil.  The family moved to Seiling her junior year, where she played basketball.  Janet graduated with the class of 1968 and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University.  She was married to her high school sweetheart, Mickey Dean Hedrick, on January 31, 1970.  Of this union, two children were born, Chad Ray and Bryan Lee.

Janet received her cosmetology license and work as a beautician for two years. She worked as a secretary for McNeil Grain Company in Seiling for six years, for the Seiling Hospital for 17 years in medical records and as a surgical tech., as well as helping on the family farm and water well business.

Entertaining was something she thoroughly enjoyed.  She kept an immaculate home and loved cooking for everyone.  She loved the lake; whether it was camping, fishing, or water skiing. Not that many years ago, Janet was still showing off for the grandkids on a wave runner.  She rarely missed an event one of her family was a part of.  Watching Regan play basketball and cheerleading, following Taylor playing basketball all over the country, and toting air horns and cow bells to Brockie’s football games was her passion.  Everyone knew when Janet was at a game; especially the referees.  She had just recently become a great-grandma and took every opportunity to spoil Miss Kinsley.

Janet was a servant of the community.  She was a member of the Chester Women’s Club, served as president of the Seiling School Board, president of the Wildcat Booster Club, and also served as president of the Area Medical Foundation.  She was a very selfless, giving person that never met a stranger.

Janet was preceded in death by her brother Billy Swaffar, mother, Violet Swaffar, nephew Brandon McCabe, brothers-in-law Keith Hedrick, Steve Hedrick, and Henry Perrin, sister-in-law Roxanne Hedrick, mother-in-law Lois Hedrick, and father-in-law Doyle Hedrick.

She is survived by her husband, Mickey Hedrick, of the home; son Chad Hedrick and wife Molly of Altus, OK;  son Bryan Hedrick and wife Jasmine of Chester, OK, father William Harold Swaffar of McAlester, OK; sister Patricia Perrin of Arpelar, OK; grand-daughter Regan Scott and husband Kelby, of Canton, OK; grand-daughter Taylor Hedrick of Weatherford, OK; grandson Brock Hedrick, of Alva, OK, grandson Colton Hedrick of Yukon, OK; great-grand-daughter Kinsley Scott; nieces and nephews Jared, Jeanie, Jett, and Jagger McCabe of McAlester; Chesney McCabe of Chickasha, OK; Jason, Misty, Connor, and Aubrey McCabe of Krebs, OK; and numerous other family and friends.

Arrangements were made through Redinger Funeral Home and services were held on Monday, October 7 at 2:00 PM, at Elm Grove Community Church with interment at Brumfield Cemetery in Seiling, OK.  The family has requested in lieu of flowers, and donation be made to the Area Medical Foundation, Seiling Fire Department, Seiling Ambulance Service, or Brumfield Cemetery Fund (c/o Redinger Funeral Home, Box 236, Seiling, OK 73663).
