Jane Lee Jacobs July 31, 1922 - February 17, 2017
Jane Lee Jacobs was born as Jane Lee Hall to John and Nellie Hall on July 31, 1922, in Woodward, OK. She attended school at Canton and graduated as valedictorian in 1940. She received her bachelor’s degree from Southwestern State College in 1943. She earned a masters degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1944. While at the University of Oklahoma she met Lyle Williams. They were married in Florida where he was serving in the Navy during WWII. She followed him when the navy sent him to San Diego. While they were in California, their daughter Doris Lee was born. After the war, they moved to Oklahoma. Lyle attended college on the G.I. Bill. After returning to OK, Jane Lee taught one year at Okeene and one year at Southard. The third year she began teaching first grade at Canton. She taught first grade for 34 years at Canton. Her husband Lyle Williams died in 1954. A year-and-a half later, she married Elb Jacobs. She cared for Elb Jacobs after her retirement until his death in 1991. After her second husband’s death, she contributed to community service. She was active in the Canton United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, VFW auxiliary, Blaine County Retired Educators, Kappa Kappa Iota, and garden club. She especially enjoyed playing piano for Canton UMC and Eastern Star Chapter 327. The last two-and a half years she lived at Corn Heritage Village. She passed away on Feb. 17, 2017, at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 94. She is survived by her daughter Doris Lee Knight, her son-in-law Paul Knight, and her grandson Lyle Knight. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Canton United Methodist Church with Pastor Daniel Hammans officiating. Interment followed in Canton Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, OK.
