Earl Ray Schoonmaker

April 3, 1941 - May 26, 2017

Earl Ray Schoonmaker was born April 3, 1941 at Fay, OK to Earl Thayne and Earl Dean (Foust) Schoonmaker at the family farm. He departed this life on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Fairview, OK. At age 4 the family moved to Manzinola, CO where Ray started school and lived until age 12, when the family moved to Lubbock, TX. He graduated high school at Lubbock and worked at the local 76 station until he moved to Oklahoma with his family in 1958. He then worked for Becker Chevrolet in Geary, OK. Ray married Pauline Martin on June 12, 1963 at Canton, OK at the First United Methodist Church. To this union two children were born, James Earl and Raelene Marie. While working at the movie theater and an auto dealership in Weatherford, Ray earned his Masters degree in Education in 1972. He began his teaching career in Greenfield, OK teaching high school math and science. At this time he also drove a school bus for Greenfield schools. He then taught Auto Mechanics at the Kingfisher Vo-Tech for one year. He taught at Northwest Technology Center in Fairview for many years before retiring in 1995. Ray loved to farm, tell stories and fish. He drove many miles going to stock shows with his children and grandchildren. Ray also loved the Lord and pastored the Longdale Community Church for over 20 years. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and mother-inlaw Marie Martin; Survivors include his wife Pauline of the home; son James Schoonmaker and wife Melinda of Longdale, OK; daughter Raelene Castillo and husband Mike of Longdale, OK; grandchildren Justin Schoonmaker and wife Noemi of Weatherford, OK, Shania Schoonmaker and boyfriend Mack Wood of Longdale, OK, Amanda Schoonmaker, Jessica Daykin and husband Kenneth and Peyton Castillo; two brothers, Steve Schoonmaker and wife Karen of Eagle City, OK and Jack Schoonmaker and wife Glenda of Longdale, OK; sister DeAnn McGahen of Longdale, OK; and many nieces, nephews and a lifetime of friends and acquaintances. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Longdale Gymnasium with Steve Driskill officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, OK. Memorials may be made to Bethel Cemetery or the Longdale Community Church with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
