Ailene Carolyn (Mayes) DeMoss

Ailene Carolyn (Mayes) DeMoss passed away peacefully with family at her bedside on October 4, 2017, at age 89 from complications of pneumonia. She was born in the Alva area and attended school both in Alva and Ferry, where she graduated from high school. Ailene married Kenneth Roy DeMoss at age 21 and was a long time resident of the Longdale/Canton area, where she worked at the Canton bank and on the family farm. She was an active member of the Longdale Community Church, where she acted as bookkeeper until earlier this year. She also was a volunteer at the Longdale Community Center and helped serve the free Thanksgiving meal offered there each year including last year’s celebration. In the summers she volunteered for the Longdale Bible School for children of the surrounding communities, something she really enjoyed. Mom/Grandma/Granny truly lived the golden rule, treating every person with respect, caring, and warmth. She understood that to grow your love, you have to give it away. Her loss leaves a hole in the hearts of those who loved her in return. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, parents George and Rosy Mayes, sister Rosie Erickson and husband Virgil (Buster), brother George (Bud) Mayes, brother-in-law J.R.
